Driving from Placencia back to the airport in Belize City
Driving directions out Out of the driveway turn right. Follow this road (hummingbird highway) all the way up the peninsula. It takes a big bend to the left but you stay on the main highway. You will pass the former banana plantation, the airstrip that is being built, and past a lot of farms and land. Eventually you will come to this traffic circle.
You want to take the road to the right. Immediately after the turn you will see Mayan World adventure park and the Mayan statue on the left.
Continue on this road for quite a way (you’ll see a lot of banana trees and orange farms, a few little settlements) until you come to the end of the road basically. There is a T intersection here. There are two big billboards at this T. Take a left. This will take you towards Belmopan. Once you take the left at the T you will see a shell gas station on the left. You’re going the correct way.
Continue on towards and through the mountains. This leg takes another 45-60 min. It takes you past Armenia and the next town is Belmopan. At the first traffic circle with the white statue you want to continue to go straight.
The next traffic circle you should see “das di fi wi chicken” on the left. There’s a big clock in the middle of this traffic circle. Again continue to go straight.
You will continue on this road until the last traffic circle and there are only three options. This is near the Guanacaste National Park … You turn right at this one as shown below. You will pass the tropic air landing strip for Belmopan on the right. You’ll pass cheers restaurant on the right and Belize zoo on the left. This is a long flat stretch that takes you all the way towards Belize city.
Your next intersection isn’t until the outskirts of Belize City near the place called ‘dick heads’ … you can either continue on the western highway or you can go up towards Burrell Boom and around. I have described the western highway route below.
Take the traffic circle left onto Chetumal …
Once on Chetumal, you cross the river and a bunch of businesses … then turn left at the traffic circle onto the main street:
After this, you just follow this road all the way to the airport. Jabiru is across the parking lot from the departures for car rental return. Hope this helps!
